A new school is a new experience for a lot of children, whether they’re heading to primary school or midway through the year in a brand new school. We’ve teamed up with an independent school in Hammersmith to provide top tips to help your child enjoy their first few days at a school.
Drop offs with your child
On their first day they’ll want to be sent off by their parents who will reassure them that their new school is going to be fun and exciting. On a child’s first day they’re usually allowed to enter the school 15 minutes after the big rush with the rest of the schoolchildren to ease them in, and so they don’t get lost! Their teacher or the headteacher will be on hand to guide them to their new class and ensure they’re comfortable on their first day.

Promote a fun environment at home
After a long day getting to grips with their new school, your child might just want to relax and watch some TV, or talk to you about their day for an hour or so. Whatever their mood is you should try and make things easy at home for them for the next few weeks. This doesn’t mean allowing bad habits to happen, but making their environment as relaxing as possible during their first few weeks. A treat every now and then will also go a long way.
Speak to your child’s teachers
Regular conversations with your child’s teachers will give you the reassurance of how they’re handling each day at school. It’s also a good way of monitoring what they’re good at and what they’re struggling with that you can help with when they come home each day. It could potentially show what could be revealed during the classroom and what needs to be addressed, too.
