School Uniform For High School Being Made Affordable For All

How much does it cost for school uniform for high school? Going to school is fantastic. Getting an education, getting qualifications, making friends and enjoying a childhood. However, for many parents, sending their children to school is extremely expensive. Different primary and secondary schools have different requirements for uniforms and some of these can cost a small fortune. There is great news though, there is a new law in place to make school uniforms for affordable for everyone.

The New Law

Having gone through Parliament with cross party support, the new law will require schools to follow Government statutory guidance on school uniform costs. So many places have certain school uniform for high school requirements, which is fair enough. There is tradition with some schools which have been going on for hundreds of years and they want that tradition to remain in place. From certain blazers, trousers, skirts, PE kit and much more, it all adds up! No longer is there a barrier between someone accessing the education they want because they don’t have the right pair of shoes.

Eradicating Education By Class

This has been the case and it is often seen as those who can afford the uniform, can access the better education. School uniform for high school should be affordable for everyone so the education can be accessed by all. Equality is key when it coms to education. It shouldn’t matter where you’ve come from, who your parents are or were you live. Where you’re going is all that matters. The qualifications you can achieve should not be determined by what you wear.

What People Are Saying

Of course, when these new laws come into play there is usually a lot being said about it. With this one, it is generally positive.

The School Standards Minister Nick Gibb was quoted as saying: “School uniforms are important in establishing the right ethos in a school. They also help to improve behaviour and a sense of belonging and identity. But we want to be sure they are affordable for parents. This new law will help to save families money and ensure the cost of a blazer or shirt is never a barrier to accessing the best possible education.”

Whilst the Chief Executive of The Children’s Society, Mark Russell, said: “We are thrilled this new law has passed and we thank Minister Gibb and the Department for Education for their support. This legislation will be vital in ensuring that school uniforms become more affordable for families across the country. Young people told us back in 2014 that high-priced school uniforms had a huge impact on their ability to make the most of their education. We hope this new law will make children feel more equal to their classmates and make life easier for struggling families.”

What do you think about the new law? What were the costs of school uniform for high school when you went? How much do you pay for uniform for your children now? Hopefully, this new law will help more families afford what they need so their children can access the education they deserve.
